Court jails 25-year-old trader for stealing sheep
An Area Court in Jos, the Plateau State capital, on Monday sentenced Emmanuel Christopher, 25, to one month in prison for stealing a sheep.
The Judge, Shawomi Bokkos, sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to the two charges of trespass and theft and begged the court for leniency.
The judge sentenced the convict to one month imprisonment with an option of N10,000 fine.
Earlier, the police prosecutor, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported at the Anglo Jos police station on April 17 by one Samuel Elvis.
He said the complainant said the accused person trespassed into his farm and stole his sheep valued at N60,000.
The prosecutor further told the court that during the police investigation, the convict confessed to having committed the act.
The offense, he said, contravened the Plateau State Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria.
