An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded a 33-year-old man, Anifowose Matthew, at the Correctional Centre in Ado-Ekiti over alleged conspiracy and armed robbery.
The defendant, whose address was not provided, is being tried for conspiracy and armed robbery.
The prosecutor, Insp. Oriyomi Akinwale, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Dec.11, 2015 in Ado-Ekiti.
Akinwale alleged that the defendant and others at large, who were remanded at the Correctional Centre during their trial, conspired among themselves and robbed one Mrs Akin Ronke of No.1, Akin Ibimiliua Close, Oke Ureje -Poly Road in Ado-Ekiti of her car, jewellery and phone.
He said that the defendant who ran away while his accomplices being arraigned, was apprehended following information received by the police from the public.
He said that the offences contravened Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012 and Section 1(3) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act, LFN 2004.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant at the Correctional Centre pending the receipt of legal advice from the office of Director of Public Prosecutions (DPPs).
The plea of the defendant was not taken.
The magistrate, Mrs Dolapo Fasuba, ordered the remand of the defendant at the correctional facility, pending when the court would receive legal advice from the office of the DPP.
She adjourned the case until March 18 for mention. (NAN)
