Court remands teenager over alleged defilement of 2-year-old
An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday ordered the remand of an 18-year-old, Solomon Sunday, at a correctional centre in Ado-Ekiti for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s two-year-old daughter.
The defendant, whose address was not provided, is facing a charge of defilement.
The prosecutor, Insp Olasunkanmi Bamikole, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Aug. 24 in Ado-Ekiti.
Bamikole said the defendant called the victim and her elder sibling to run an errand for him while their mother was away.
According to him, when they returned, the defendant asked the elder sibling to leave but told the victim to wait, during which he allegedly defiled her.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant in the correctional centre, pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
He said the offence contravened Section 31 of the Child Rights Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The plea of the defendant was not taken.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adefunke Anoma, ordered that the defendant be remanded in the correctional centre pending the issuance of legal advice.
She adjourned the case until Oct. 14 for mention. (NAN)
