Cristiano Ronaldo will miss Rio 2016 Olympics
According to the head coach of Portugal’s Olympic team, Cristiano Ronaldo will not return to help his country at Rio 2016. The 31-year-old striker will make his latest bid for an elusive major honour at international level when he travels to France with Fernando Santos’ Euro 2016 team.
And Rui Jorge is not holding out much hope of having Ronaldo amongst his options: “We do not yet know exactly about the three players over 23, we will wait, but I don’t believe Cristiano Ronaldo will be there. We are not thinking about that. Of course he is one of the two best players in the world. Any club or country could use his contribution.”
It would be realled that the Olympic football tournament runs from August 3-20, while La Liga 2016-2017 season set to begin on the latter date. The manager added: “Even though the dates are not incompatible, it could produce an overload, a lack of holidays”. Meanwhile, Ramon Jesurun, the president of Colombian Football Federation, has confirmed that Ronaldo’s teammate James Rodriguez would not take part in the Olympics 2016.
