David de Gea Exit: Inter set to punish Manchester United
David de Gea’s exit from Old Trafford after twelve years stint was on July 8, 2023 confirmed by Manchester United.
The exit of the Spaniard has since left United struggling to replace him after already showing interest in Inter Milan’s Andrea Onana.
And while the Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag had wished for a reunion with the Cameroonian, the reports reaching National Daily have suggested that Inter have insisted that United must meet their £51million asking price if they wish to sign Andre Onana,
It is however believed that the Serie A giants are emboldened to hold out for their valuation following David De Gea’s exit from United.
The Spaniard confirmed on Saturday that he has left the club for good, and will not sign a new deal at the Theatre of Dreams.
Though De Gea was already a free agent, he had remained in talks with United over signing a new deal.
National Daily learnt that United had opened talks to sign Onana alongside contract talks with De Gea but the Spaniard’s announcement has weakened United’s hand in negotiations with Inter.
The Italians rejected an opening bid of around £38m but United had been confident that a compromise could be found between that initial bid and Inter’s £51m asking price.
But Sky Sports report that Inter are in no mood to lower their asking price and feel that United have little choice but to pay £51m, given De Gea has now left the club.
United are walking a financial tightrope this summer and Erik ten Hag has been given a budget of just £120m to spend.
Mason Mount has arrived on a £55m deal, meaning United have around £65m left to spend before player sales.
Should United meet Inter’s asking price, they will have just £14m left to sign a striker and Ten Hag would need to raise significant funds.
