Egbetokun appoints new AIGs to bolster police leadership, enhance security nationwide

In a strategic move to strengthen internal security and advance professionalism within the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has announced the immediate redeployment of new Assistant Inspectors-Generals of Police (AIGs).

These appointments cover key Police Zonal Commands across the country and include a new AIG for the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Onikan, Lagos.

The newly appointed AIGs and their postings are as follows: AIG Suleiman M. Yusuf: Zone 9, Umuahia; AIG Ahmed Ammani: Zone 1, Kano; AIG Zachariah Fera: Zone 4, Makurdi an AIG Augustina N. Ogbodo: FCID Annex, Lagos

These appointments come in the wake of the retirement of several AIGs who previously oversaw the Zonal Commands.

Notably, the former AIG Zone 1, DIG Ari Muhammed Ali, was recently promoted to Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) in charge of the Department of Operations at Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The reshuffling underscores the IGP’s focus on ensuring effective leadership and maintaining continuity in the operational and administrative oversight of the Police Force across the nation.

In his directive to the newly appointed AIGs, IGP Egbetokun stressed the importance of integrity, accountability, and adherence to the principles of ethical policing.

He urged the officers to align with the Force’s ongoing reform initiatives aimed at restoring public trust, eliminating misconduct within the ranks, and enhancing the operational efficiency of the Police.

“The responsibility of leadership at this level demands strict supervision and unwavering commitment to professional conduct. I trust that you will prioritize these values as you oversee operations in your respective zones,” the IGP stated.

The new AIGs have been tasked with addressing critical challenges in their regions, including tackling organized crime, fostering community engagement, and ensuring diligent enforcement of law and order.

Additionally, they are expected to lead by example, inspiring officers under their command to uphold the highest standards of service delivery.
