Egbetokun’s PSO, Police Spokesman elevated in fresh PSC promotions exercise

In a move reflecting recognition of exemplary service within the Nigeria Police Force, the Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of two senior officers, including the Principal Staff Officer to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Ahmed Lateef Adio, and the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

The announcement was made public on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, following a review of senior officer recommendations and performance evaluations by the PSC.

Ahmed Lateef Adio, who serves as the Principal Staff Officer to the IGP, has been promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police (CP). Adio’s elevation marks a significant milestone in his career, underscoring his role in strategic coordination and leadership at the highest level of the police command structure.

A seasoned officer, CP Adio has worked closely with successive police leaderships, bringing administrative depth and operational insight to his role at the Force Headquarters.

Also promoted is the widely recognized spokesman of the Nigeria Police Force, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who now holds the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), having previously served as an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP).

Adejobi, a career communicator and legal professional, has served as the public face of the Nigeria Police Force, especially during major national security briefings and crises.

His elevation is seen as a nod to his efforts in reshaping police-public relations, managing media engagements, and advancing transparency within the force.

The promotions, which come amid broader efforts to professionalize the police and reward merit, have been welcomed by stakeholders within the security and governance sector.

A senior security analyst, Dr. Charles Ebi, commended the Police Service Commission for what he described as “a timely and deserving recognition of officers who have remained consistent, efficient, and results-driven.”

“These are not just routine promotions; they’re symbolic of a shift toward professionalism and visibility in police leadership,” he said.

The newly promoted officers are expected to take on enhanced responsibilities in line with their new ranks, contributing further to the ongoing police reform agenda under the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
