Ekiti 2022: APC, SDP supporters fight during campaign, 2 shot, 1 killed
Supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday fought with supporters of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) on Saturday during SDP governorship campaign in Ekiti State. Two persons were said to be shot during exchange of gunfire, why persons was reportedly killed during the conflagration in Itaji Ekiti, Oye local Government Area, Ekiti State, at a campaign venue for the June 18 governorship election.
Suspected thugs were said to have obstructed the campaign team of Engr. Segun Oni, SDP governorship candidate.
An SDP leader, Bimbo Daramola, was said to have stated that certain interest groups in the state obstructed the peaceful campaign of the SDP, shooting at the party’s supporters, leading to the fracas.
The APC governorship candidate, Biodun Oyebanji, was said to have admonished his supporters to eschew from violence and be restrained on the event of provocation.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Ekiti State Command, Sunday Abutu, had acknowledged the fracas bit did not confirm any death or injuries.
