Ekiti 2022: Armed men attack Segun Oni campaign convoy
Armed men on Wednesday attacked the convoy of the Segun Oni Campaign Organisation (SOCO) in Ekiti State. The Director of Media and Publicity of the Segun Oni Campaign Organization, Jackson Adebayo, in a statement explained that the armed men struck in Efon Alaaye, Ekiti West Local Government Area, as Segun Oni was prepared to hold consultation meeting with supporters of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Jackson Adebayo emphasized that the Oni campaign organization had successfully visited nine local governments in the Ekiti State since Monday, where Oni and his group were well received by large turnout of SDP members and supporters. He said that the armed men attacked campaign convoy firing gunshots, as well as using cutlasses and other dangerous weapons at about 3.30pm.

According to the statement: “Shortly after the Efon Local Government members and supporters of the SDP had converged at the venue to wait for the arrival of the party’s governorship candidate, Asiwaju Segun Oni, the thugs shot and attacked the SDP supporters with sticks and cutlasses.”
Jackson stated that some party supporters were injured while vehicles in the convoy were damaged by thugs before the arrival of the police which repelled the thugs
The statement added that an operative of the Nigeria Civil Defense Corps also sustained injury while struggling to prevent the gunmen, alleged to be APC thugs, from snatching his gun.
