Ekweremadu: Kidney problem runs in family; deatained senator down with acute kidney failure
The Ekweremadus are going through a rough patch of their lives following the detention of the former Dep Sen. President Ike Ekweremadu in the UK for allegedly trafficking a Nigerian for illegal kidney donation.
While Sonia, Ekweremadu’s daughter in need of the said kidney David Ukpo was flown to London to donate is languishing in pain, the father is also down with a similar problem.
It runs in the family, according to Sonia in her appeal on Instagram for a donor.
“This appeal would have been utterly unnecessary as every member of my family is eager to donate their kidney to me, knowing that I would do the same for any of them.,” she wrote.
“Regrettably, a comprehensive medical examination showed that my case of nephrotic syndrome is a genetic illness and the doctors advised against donation from any of my family members, as it would likely reoccur.
“In the time that my father has been incarcerated, he has been diagnosed with acute kidney damage.”
Since Ukpo reported to London police he was trafficked against his will for organ harvesting, contrary to the Ekweremadus’ claim, the senator has been detained while he face trial.
