Elderly man arrested for alleged ritual attempt involving baby’s eyes
An elderly man, identified as Malam Yahaya from the Utoro community in Kano State, has been arrested for allegedly attempting to orchestrate the abduction of a baby to harvest the child’s eyes for ritual purposes.
Police operatives from the Bompai Division apprehended Yahaya after a man, allegedly under his influence, was caught attempting to carry out the bizarre act.
In a video obtained by Sahara Reporters, the suspect, identified as Kabir Sani, confessed to the police and led them to Yahaya’s residence. During a search, authorities discovered various suspicious items, including a calabash with inscriptions, white and red clothing, and multiple charms.
Narrating his ordeal, Sani, a 25-year-old resident of Utoro, said, “My name is Kabir Sani. I came to Malam Yahaya because I wasn’t feeling well. He gave me medicine and instructed me to use my urine for three days.

When I returned, he gave me ‘Tulare’ perfume and another substance called Hantu. After using them, I felt like I had lost control of my mind. I blindly obeyed everything he told me.”
According to Sani, Yahaya promised him ₦1 million in exchange for bringing a child whose eyes would be removed to prepare a charm for a soldier.
“I even went to my sister’s house and explained everything Malam Yahaya asked me to do. I wasn’t in my right senses. I tried to find an eight-month-old baby living in our house, but fortunately, I couldn’t go through with it. If I had, the child’s eyes would have been removed,” he confessed.
He also pleaded for help, saying, “I beg Malam to restore my senses to normal.” Efforts to reach Kano State Police spokesperson Haruna Abdullahi for comments were unsuccessful as he did not respond to calls or messages at the time of this report.
