Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, reportedly experienced a terrifying midair scare on Monday after the private jet conveying him suffered engine failure during flight.
The incident, though yet to be officially confirmed by the minister or his media team, has sparked widespread concern and gratitude among associates and political allies.
A viral video circulating on social media appears to capture Wike audibly praying in the aircraft as the pilots worked frantically to stabilize the jet.
In the tense recording, Wike is heard repeatedly invoking divine intervention, uttering phrases like, “Satan, you are a liar,” and “Father, please take charge,” amid audible anxiety in the cabin.
Though the precise details — including the flight’s origin, destination, and the aircraft model — remain unclear, multiple sources in Rivers State, Wike’s political stronghold, have confirmed the occurrence, expressing relief that the minister made it through the ordeal unscathed.
“This is nothing short of a miracle,” a close associate of the minister told reporters on Tuesday. “We thank God for preserving the life of our leader. The situation could have ended tragically.”
While the Federal Ministry of Aviation and relevant aviation authorities are yet to issue a statement on the reported incident, aviation experts say engine failure midair is among the most critical emergencies a pilot can face, requiring swift technical action and calm navigation to ensure a safe landing.

This is not the first time Wike has faced a brush with death. Following the 2023 presidential elections, the former Rivers State governor disclosed during a public appearance that he was once poisoned at a political meeting.
He claimed the incident severely damaged his liver, requiring weeks of treatment abroad.
The Monday jet scare adds another dramatic chapter to Wike’s political journey, which has been marked by both fierce controversy and enduring influence.
Known for his confrontational style and unfiltered public commentary, Wike has remained a major force within Nigerian politics, particularly since his appointment to the FCT portfolio under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
As the public awaits an official response or clarification from the minister, Nigerians across party lines have continued to send messages of goodwill, praying for his safety and continued health.
