FG advances emergency services with landmark NCC’s collaboration

In a move to improve emergency response and internal security in Nigeria, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, has announced a groundbreaking partnership with the Ministry of Interior.

The collaboration was unveiled during a meeting hosted by Tijani, where he welcomed his counterpart, Minister Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, to explore the use of technology in enhancing government services.

During the high-level discussion, the ministers, alongside officials from key agencies such as the Nigerian Immigration Service, Nigeria Correctional Service, Nigeria Security & Civil Defence Corps, and the Federal Fire Service, reviewed the 112 emergency number service solution.

This solution, facilitated by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), is designed to streamline emergency communications across the country.

A key outcome of the meeting was a mutual agreement for the Ministry of Interior to spearhead efforts to align all stakeholders and unify existing emergency numbers under the 112 platform.

This consolidation aims to establish a seamless, centralized system for managing emergency calls, ensuring faster response times and greater efficiency.

Minister Tijani emphasized the importance of integrating technology into public service delivery, stating that the initiative reflects the Nigerian government’s commitment to leveraging innovation for the benefit of its citizens. “By harmonizing emergency communication systems, we can create a more reliable and effective framework to address emergencies promptly,” he said.

Minister Tunji Ojo echoed this sentiment, pledging his ministry’s full support in coordinating efforts to align internal security agencies and ensure the success of the 112 platform.

This collaboration highlights the Nigerian government’s strategic focus on using technology to enhance public safety and service delivery. By bringing together key stakeholders, the initiative is poised to set a new benchmark for emergency response systems in the country, providing Nigerians with more efficient and dependable access to emergency assistance.
