Former Juventus manager Antonio Conte who has emerged as the best candidate to replace the under fire United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford has reportedly made a request from the Red Devils.

According to the reports gathered by National Daily from Corriere della Sera, it is believed that the Italian has demanded the signing of Stefan de Vrij from Inter Milan if he eventually replaces Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United.

Solskjaer has come under intense pressure after the Red Devils conceded nine goals while scoring just two in their last two successive Premier League defeats.

The 5-0 humiliation by the Reds came as the greatest blow to the Old Trafford club from their arch rivals Liverpool which have since helped pile-up more pressure on United boss.

Though Solskjaer was believed to have received the backing of United’s hierarchy and even that of the former club’s legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson to retain his position at Old Trafford, but many still believe that the end is finally near for the Norwegian tactician.

Majority of the Red Devils fans have not hidden their dissatisfaction as the club has continually struggled recently under their current boss especially with the former club’s legend Paul Ince slamming Solskjaer ahead of his Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.

The disappointed Ince was quick to remind Solskjaer on how he took Cardiff City down and went to Molde while also adding that his coaching staff has no experience.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that Solskjaer had been given the next three games to save his job as United boss when the Red Devils play guests to Tottenham in the Premier League on October 30, Atlanta in the Champions League come November 2 and hosts to their neigbours Manchester City on November 6.

And while many expect Solskjaer to quit his role at United after these games, former Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte has remained as the frontrunner to replace the Norwegian at Old Trafford.

However, it is reported that the 52-year-old would insist on bringing a trusted defender with him. The report claims a deal may well hinge on the “purchase of a loyal player from Inter as early as January”.

De Vrij as believed to have been demanded by the former Chelsea boss made 32 appearances as Conte and Inter Milan won the Scudetto last season.

The Dutch defender is seen as “ideal for guiding the transition from a four-man defence to a three-man defence”.
