Finally, Manchester United and David de Gea situation goes messy
The contract situation between Manchester United and their shot stopper David De Gea has gone messy following the report reaching National Daily.
National Daily learnt that the Spaniard signed a new deal at Old Trafford, but only for the club to withdraw their offer after failing to complete their side of the paperwork.
It therefore suggests that the 32-year-old will be free to join another club on a free transfer as he is out of contract later this week.
The latest development comes despite National Daily learning from the claim by the Athletic that De Gea had already signed a new deal with the club.
It was understood that De Gea agreed to a significant pay decrease to the £375,000-a-week deal that he signed in 2019.
The Spaniard put pen-to-paper on an extension, only for the club to fail to fulfill their side of the proposal.
The club consequently withdrew the offer, and submitted a new proposal to De Gea on further reduced terms.
De Gea, who is understandably annoyed, is yet to agree to the new proposal.
The Spaniard has offers on the table from Saudi Arabia but he wants to remain in Europe to compete at the highest level.
It means United have just four days to come to a resolution with De Gea over a new contract, before he becomes a free agent.
Meanwhile, National Daily understands that United are already lining up replacement for the former Atletico Madrid goalie with Cameroonian international Andre Onana believed to be their first choice.
