Finally, Solskjaer reacts to the ‘lies’ around United’s defeat to Liverpool

There is no doubt that most Red Devils fans are still struggling to deal with humiliation received from Liverpool following their 5-0 thrashing last Sunday.

United players were booed out of Old Trafford at half time with the scoreline at 4-0 before they ended up conceding another goal to embarrassingly end the game at 5-0 defeat.

The humiliating result has since generated diverse reports which United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have termed as blatant lies.

The Norwegian tactician who has been left fighting for his job due to United’s poor performances lately as summed up by Liverpool’s horrible defeat, was quick to condemn the reported lies about his team after the game on Sunday.

There were reports that some United players have become doubtful of Solskjaer’s capacity as manager with some names like Zinadine Zidane and Antonio Conte since been touted as possible replacement for the 48-year-old.

Yet another report has claimed that Paul Pogba who was dismissed during the game against Liverpool apologized to his team-mates for his red card while snubbing Solskjaer.

Meanwhile, the under-fire United boss has now come out to condemn such reports as blatant lies.

‘I don’t read social media but Paul came up to me angry,’ Solskjaer said at his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon.

‘We expect to be criticised and we hold our hands up, the performance wasn’t good enough, but we can’t accept lies.

‘Paul told me what he put up on his social media. We’re better than that as a group – the culture, environment is better, we can’t stand for blatant lies.

‘The players are going to stand up and say so. All the opinions and reports, fine, but don’t make up lies about me or the players.’

Solskjaer when asked whether there was any truth in the various reports that came out following Manchester United’s demoralising defeat, added: ‘I think I’ve just answered that.

‘The players come in, proper professionals and good people, and do their best. We have an environment in and around the place, loads of respect for each other.

‘When you come in for criticism like you do, you come into the trenches with your team-mates.

‘That’s the reaction I’ve seen this seen, whatever this club has been through before, it’s always about getting through it with courage, togetherness, self-belief, sticking together and this group has done that.’

It is only necessary for Solskjaer and his team to redeem their image by bouncing back to victory as they play guests to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
