Flood submerges Isheri-Oshun road, leaves Lagos residents stranded [VIDEO]
Residents and commuters in the Isheri-Oshun Road axis of Ijegun community, Lagos State, have raised the alarm over severe flooding that has submerged a major access road, disrupting movement and threatening homes and businesses in the area.
The flooding, reportedly triggered by a blocked drainage system, has left sections of the road covered with stagnant water, making movement difficult for motorists, commercial transport operators, pedestrians and other road users.
Residents said the situation worsened following heavy rainfall, with the blocked drainage unable to effectively channel stormwater away from the road.
The development has heightened concerns among residents who fear that prolonged exposure to stagnant floodwater could further damage the road and surrounding infrastructure while increasing the risk of waterborne diseases.
Some commuters have reportedly been forced to navigate through flooded portions of the road, while others are avoiding the area altogether because of the difficult conditions.
Residents blamed the recurring flooding partly on the poor state of the drainage infrastructure, arguing that blocked channels prevent rainwater from flowing freely and leave roads vulnerable to prolonged inundation.
They appealed to the Lagos State Government and relevant local authorities to urgently clear the drainage and restore proper water flow before the situation deteriorates.

The residents also called for a comprehensive assessment of drainage channels in the community, saying periodic clearance and maintenance would help prevent the recurrence of flooding whenever there is heavy rainfall.
Beyond disrupting transportation, the flooding has raised fears of damage to vehicles and properties located close to the affected road.
Residents said urgent intervention was necessary to prevent the flooded section from becoming a permanent hazard to the community.
The situation once again highlights the persistent flooding challenge confronting several Lagos communities, where rapid urbanisation, inadequate drainage capacity, blocked waterways and poor waste disposal continue to complicate efforts to manage stormwater.
Residents of Isheri-Oshun and adjoining communities are therefore urging the authorities to move beyond emergency responses and implement lasting drainage and flood-control measures in the area.
