Fresh tension rises over Taiwan as US Governor visits Taipei after China’s military exercise
Fresh tension rises over Taiwan as the US Governor on Sunday, visited Taiwan after China had carried out military drills in the disputed territory of Taiwan following an earlier visit to Taipei by the Speaker of the US House, Nancy Pelosi.
The Republican Governor of Indiana, Eric Holcomb, arrived in Taiwan on Sunday for an “economic development trip”. The US Governor on Monday had a meeting with President Tsai Ing-wen of Taiwan.
The Taiwan President told the Republican Governor of Indiana, Eric Holcomb, decried the military threats from China, saying: “Presently we are facing the continued expansion of global authoritarianism.
“Taiwan has been confronted by military threats from China in and around the Taiwan Strait. At this moment democratic allies must stand together and boost cooperation across all areas.”
Governor Holcomb had declared that the United States and Taiwan “share so many common values and interests and goals.”
He assured: “We will continue to seek to build a strategic partnership with you.”
