Golden Eaglets skipper Samson Tijani, others pass age test in Tanzania
Golden Eaglets will be led by skipper Samson Tijani at the U17 AFCON in Tanzania after he and other members of the squad were given a clean bill of health following another round of MRI age tests in Tanzania, has been reliably informed.
Stylish defensive midfielder Tijani, who was named MVP of the zonal qualifiers in Niger in September, was a major doubt for the competition because he is on Grade 5.
“He has been cleared to play at the AFCON because his result even in Abuja was a clean Grade 5,” a top official informed.
The squad underwent a fresh set of age tests conducted by CAF on Thursday, a day after they landed in Tanzania.
Unlike the zonal qualifiers where two Eaglets were disqualified by the age test, the entire 21-man squad to Tanzania made it this time.
However, hosts Tanzania will be without two players, while Uganda lost a player.
Both teams cannot replace the disqualified players.
Tanzania will battle the Eaglets in the opening game of the tournament tomorrow by 2pm Nigerian time.
