Gunmen kill INEC staff in Delta
The State Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Delta State, Monday Tom, at the INEC collation centre, Asaba, on Monday, disclosed the killing of an INEC Official by gunmen after the Saturday presidential election.
The INEC official was said to be killed on Monday in Ukwani Local Government Area, Delta State, while on the way with other INEC ad hoc staff, to Asaba to deliver the results of the election in the local government.
According to the REC, “there were incidents of attack in Ukwani Local Government Area where one of us died on their way coming after the election.”
Tom added that the other ad hoc staff injured in the attack were members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The REC stated that “The gunmen opened fire at their bus and unfortunately killed one INEC official and injured the corps members.
“The corpers are now receiving treatment but we are planning on how to move the corps members who were injured to a hospital in Asaba.”
