How stealing entire transformer became easy for Niger teenagers, others
The Niger State Police Command has arrested five persons over vandalism and theft of electricity transformers.
Police Public Relations Officer DSP Wasiu Abiodun said the suspects were arrested last Tuesday.
According to him, the suspects were arrested at Lapai-Gwari area along Building materials market road, Minna by the Chanchaga Division patrol team during a routine patrol of the area.
According to him, they conspired among themselves, vandalised two electric transformers in the area, and carted away some of the electric cables.
The suspects include Hussaini Adamu 23yrs, Mustapha Umar 17yrs, Mande Magaji 17yrs, Suleiman Zubairu 16yrs, Salisu Usman (receiver) 25yrs, all male of Kasuwan-Gwari, Minna.
He revealed that four of the suspects arrested at the scene confessed to the crime and led the police to Salisu Usman at Kasuwan-Gwari, Minna who bought the cables from them.
The case is still under investigation, while exhibits recovered from the suspects are: three insulators and a vandalised electric transformer.
The police urged members of the public to continue to support them and other security agencies with relevant information to secure the environment.
