INEC no longer keeps electoral materials with CBN – Chairman
The chairman of the independent National Electoral Commission, Mahmood Yakubu, has said that sensitive electoral materials will no longer be kept in the custody of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Yakubu said this on Saturday at a public dialogue organised by civil society organisation, Enough is Enough Nigeria in Abuja.
He said that the commission is starting with the Ekiti State governorship election.
He said, “We appreciate the circumstances and for that reason the sensitive materials for Ekiti election will not be routed through the Central Bank of Nigeria…in the meantime. But when it comes to subsequent elections… general election, we have to look for other means of handling it. I want to assure you that for Ekiti State, the materials will not be handled by the Central Bank of Nigeria.”
