Jihadists ambush convoy, kill 11 soldiers, 50 civilians missing
Jihadists had struck in northern Burkina Faso, killing 11 soldiers, while about 50 civilians declared missing after exchange of gunfire with security operatives.
Spokesman of the government, Lionel Bilgo, late on Tuesday, disclosed that “a convoy carrying supplies to Djibo town was the target of a cowardly and barbaric attack.
“The provisional toll is that 11 bodies of soldiers have been found… About 50 civilians are missing and searches are ongoing.”
The convoy was said to have been ambushed Monday near Gaskinde in Soum region. It also said that convoys are usually escorted by the army, while conveying essential goods to towns in the north, essentially Djibo, which has been blocked by jihadists.
