Kyari remains DCP, Police Service Commission insists
Amid allegations of cybercrime and drug trafficking, DCP Abba Kyari remains suspended—not dismissed.
The Police Service Commission stated this in press release Thursday by its spokesperson Ikechukwu Ani.
Other police officers—Assistant Commissioner of Police Sunday Ubua; and Assistant Superintendent of Police James Bawa—embroiled in the latest narcotic ring are also suspended.
The police commission also suspended cops of the Intelligence Response Team who were indicted with Kyari in alleged drug trafficking and related offences.
The commission also asked Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba to suspend Inspector Simon Agrigba and Inspector John Nuhu with effect from Monday.
The NDLEA in a sting operation caught Kyari, who has been on suspension since July for complicity in Ramon Abbas cyber-criminal ring, brokering deal for drug barons whose mules were arrested by the IGP Intelligence Response Team which Kyari commanded before.
Kyari offered the NDLEA undercover agents $61,400 for the 25kg stash of coke.
The bust has created subtle enmity between the Nigerian police and the narc agency.
