Lagos police charged lady to court over death of Bumpa founder Tunji Opayele
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arraignment of Biola Adams-Odutayo, the driver accused of causing the death of 32-year-old software engineer and Bumpa co-founder, Adetunji Opayele (Teejay).
Teejay died in a road accident on March 4 along Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, Victoria Island, Lagos. Reports indicate he was riding his power bike when Adams-Odutayo allegedly entered the expressway without checking for oncoming traffic, leading to the fatal crash.
In a statement on Saturday, Lagos Police PRO Benjamin Hundeyin said: “Following a thorough investigation, Abiola Odutayo ‘f’ was arraigned in Court 1, Tinubu, on March 12, 2025, for driving recklessly on a public highway without due care and attention, causing the death of one Tunji Opayele ‘m’, aged 32.”
The court granted her bail and adjourned the case to April 16, 2025. However, Teejay’s family and supporters remain dissatisfied with the proceedings.

A Change.org petition alleges that Adams-Odutayo stayed on a phone call for over 30 minutes after the crash instead of assisting Teejay, while bystanders struggled to get him medical attention. Witnesses also claim she initially tried to flee but was stopped by onlookers.
The petition further states that multiple hospitals refused to admit Teejay, delaying crucial medical care.
Public outcry continues, with demands for authorities to upgrade the charges to manslaughter and ensure Adams-Odutayo remains in Nigeria to face trial. Supporters are also calling for intervention from the Lagos State Ministry of Justice to prevent any alleged cover-up.
The Lagos State Police Command has assured the public of transparency and fairness in handling the case.
