LAWMA to hold Waste Essay Competition, calls for entries.
The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) says its education arm, LAWMA Academy, is set to hold its second Waste Essay Competition for Lagos residents.
The LAWMA Director of Public Affairs, Mrs Folashade Kadiri, in a statement on Wednesday said that the topic for the Competiton is: “Impact of waste Containerisation of Effective Waste Management.”
According to LAWMA, the competition among other things, is to promote awareness on its recently launched “Adopt-a-Bin programme”, as well as broaden participants’ knowledge in the area of waste management and environmental sustainability.
“Our portal is open for the second edition of the waste competition with the topic, ‘Impact of waste containerization of effective waste management’.
“This is in line with LAWMA’s current initiative to promote proper waste containerisation through the Adopt-a-Bin programme launched in February.
“We believe that this will help to get people’s opinion on waste containerization and recommendations to help in remodeling the programme,” LAWMA said.
The authority said that the essay competition was open to persons aged 18- 30yrs, with cash prizes of ₦50,000 for the winner, ₦30,000 for the first runner-up and ₦20,000 for the second runner- up.
LAWMA advised participants to visit its portal for full guidelines, adding that the maximum essay length of 1,500 words be adhered to and the essay submitted in a Word file, with Times New Roman font, size 12.
“Eligibility criteria include being resident in Lagos; the bio data accompanying the essay must include: date of birth, gender, address and occupation, while participants are expected to follow LAWMA’s social media handles,” LAWMA said.
The National Daily reports that the first edition of the competition was conducted in August 2020, with over 250 entries received.
