Lebanon grants visa-on-arrival access to citizens of 13 African countries

The Lebanese General Security Directorate has maintained its visa-on-arrival policy for citizens of 13 African countries, allowing eligible travelers to obtain a one-month entry visa upon arrival without first applying at a Lebanese embassy.

The visa-on-arrival scheme is available at designated airports and land border crossings but remains subject to immigration checks and compliance with the country’s entry requirements.

Under the current policy, eligible African countries include Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Sudan, Tunisia, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria, Comoros, Djibouti and Somalia.

However, Lebanese authorities have emphasized that eligibility for the visa-on-arrival programme does not guarantee entry into the country. Travelers must satisfy immigration officials by presenting all required documents before they are granted admission.

According to the entry guidelines, visitors are required to provide a valid return or onward ticket, proof of accommodation in Lebanon—either a confirmed hotel reservation or the address and contact details of a host—and evidence of sufficient financial means to support their stay.

Immigration authorities also require eligible travelers to possess at least $2,000 in cash or an equivalent certified bank draft to cover their expenses while in Lebanon.

Officials warned that travelers who fail to meet these conditions, including those unable to provide proof of funds or accommodation, may be denied entry and returned to their country of departure at their own expense.

The visa-on-arrival arrangement is intended primarily for tourism and short-term visits, with the initial visa valid for one month, subject to Lebanese immigration regulations.
