Food serves a great role in all of our lives. Consuming food is both a way to sustain ourselves and a vital part of our way of life. As you age, your eating habits may change. Perhaps you are limited to a certain diet after developing an allergy or other condition. And over time life changes may make it more difficult to shop for and prepare regular meals. But there’s one thing that will never change: the relevance of healthy food consumption. You may already know foods you should include in a healthy diet, but the question is, do you know what you should avoid or limit?

Some of the things you should not consume as you age include.

1. Caffeine

Although caffeine may not be an issue for everyone, it can make some people have anxious feelings. Caffeine can also make your heart rate and trigger sleeping problems. If you’re trying to reduce caffeine consumption, be sure to taper off slowly. Avoiding caffeine too quickly may lead to headaches, nausea, or vomiting. Slowly replace caffeinated drinks with water, herbal tea, or decaf.

2. Foods high in salt

Too much intake of sodium can make your blood pressure increase and put you at a higher chance of heart attack and stroke.

3. Alcohol

Moderate drinking may lessen your risk of heart attack and some types of strokes. But as you age, alcohol may impact you differently. Alcohol disrupts sleep and can make your blood pressure rise. Alcohol can also lead to hypoglycemia in people with high blood sugar. It even impacts the way medicines work.
