Man bags 8 months imprisonment for shop breaking
A Kaduna Magistrates’ Court, on Wednesday, sentenced a 30-year-old man, Samuel Friday, to eight months imprisonment for shops breaking and stealing properties worth N370, 900.
Friday, a resident of Barnawa, Kaduna was convicted on a two-count charge of burglary and stealing.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, sentenced the convict, following his plea of guilty to eight months imprisonment, without an option of fine.
Emmanuel however, ordered that the sentences should run concurrently.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Dec. 18 at about 6:00 a.m at a shopping complex in Barnawa.
Leo said that the convict and two others at large, burgled the shop belonging to Williams David and stole two dozens of plastic chairs, a TV set and generator all valued at N370, 900.
According to him, the convict and his accomplices entered into the shop through the ceiling and stole the items.
Leo further explained that the convict was arrested by members of the community vigilance group while the others escaped.
The prosecutor told the court that the convict was interrogated and he confessed to the offence.
He said the offences contravened Section 57 and 306 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017.
