Mr Ikedi Peter, a Nigerian from Delta state, murdered his wife before committing suicide.

Prior to his death, the man was a resident of Ekwuoma community in Delta State’s Ika North East Local Government Area.

He allegedly committed suicide after murdering of his wife, Prophetess Chikodi Ikedi Peter, who is said to be the General Overseer of the Ancient of Days Healing Church in the same area.

The occurrence, which has left community members befuddled and in sadness, apparently occurred early Sunday morning, December 5, 2021.

Peter was claimed to have escaped to his home town a few hours after cutting his wife’s throat in the early dawn of that day and committed suicide by jumping into a well.

The couple left behind Emmanuel, their only surviving child.

According to a story by Ika Weekly Newspaper, a local tabloid published in Agbor, Delta State, Daniel Ani, the late Prophetess’s father, regretted his daughter’s untimely demise, describing it as a big loss for him and the rest of the family.

Mr Ani also testified that when he visited the deceased couple a day before the tragic tragedy, they were having an amicable disagreement.

However, he said that his daughter and her husband were happy before he left their house that Saturday.

Ani, who is from Enugu State, however, stated that the following day at approximately 4:00 a.m., three individuals came to his residence and asked him to accompany them to the church.

He stated that despite his surprise at the invitation at such an ungodly hour, he followed them to the church and was met with his daughter’s butchered body.

In his words, “Upon my arrival at the church, I went direct to my daughter’s room and saw her lifeless body on her bed, her throat had already been slit”.

“I think my daughter was asleep when the husband slit her throat, if not, he would not have been able to commit the evil”.

On his part, HRM Dr. Ezeagwu Ezenwali 1 JP, the traditional ruler of Umunede Kingdom, stated that the death of Prophetess Chikodi is a severe blow to the entire Kingdom of Umunede, noting that the dead was a good woman.

He stated that he and his family, as well as citizens of Umunede Kingdom, are mourning the loss of Prophetess Chikodi, emphasizing that she was a divinely appointed prophetess.

The royal father said that the late prophetess delivered bags of rice and other food supplies to a large number of people last year, when Covid-19 was at its peak.

He said that death had taken a decent woman from the Umunede and other communities, exactly as he pleaded for God to accept her soul.

As was the case with the traditional ruler, Prophetess Chikodi, who died at the age of 44, was characterized by many as a good, compassionate, and God-fearing woman who was always there for her people and anybody who crossed her path.

Her mother, from Ogbeisere, Ileje Quarters, Umunede, was said to have died shortly after giving birth to her.

Following news of the incident, a large number of community members, including church members, gathered at Kifa Hospital, where the Prophetess’s remains were carried, asking to see her dead body.

However, their request was denied due to the fact that the body had already been deposited in the mortuary.

Members of the church and allies also gathered in groups, crying as they discussed the tragic incident.

On the terrible day of her death, it was discovered that late Prophetess Chikodi intended to start a new branch of the church in another community, Igbodo.

Many were perplexed by the situation, as no one knew what transpired between the couple.

At the time of this report’s publication, the Delta Police Command had not yet responded formally to the double tragedy.
