Man lands in remand for calling Ganduje thief; bail denied
A Kano State Magistrate’s Court sitting in Nomansland has ordered the remand of one
Mu’azu Magaji Danbala is cooling off in the custodial centre for allegedly defaming the character of Kano Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on social media
The suspect was accused and arraigned before a Kano magistrates court over the defamatory statement against the governor and his children Abdul’aziz and Balaraba.
The other accused, Jamilu Shehu, is on the run.
The two men were arraigned for alleged conspiracy, intentional insult, inciting public disturbance and defamation of character, and the counts are all contrary to Section 97, 114, 391 and 399 of the Penal Code.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) on the 26th October 2021, the Chairman Nassarawa LGA, Auwal Lawal Shuaibu, reported to the Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB), Kano Command and complained against the duo, both of Sabon Garin Kiru, Kiru LGA, Kano.
The suspect, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and thereafter the defence counsel applied for his bail.
The court thereafter ordered the suspect to be remanded in a custodial facility after his bail application was objected to by the prosecution counsel, Barrister Wada Ahmad Wada, a principal state counsel.
The presiding judge, Aminu Gabari, also ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Police Headquarters to produce the case diary before the court would determine whether or not to admit the suspect to bail.
The case has been adjourned to Nov. 8.
The Kano first family have been having a hard time since the Daily Nigerian some years ago published a video leak of a man supposed to be Ganduje stuffing dollars in his cap and babaringa.
Ganduje just withdrew the case in court.
But not long after the withdrawal, his son reported his mother to the EFCC over another allegation of corruption.
