Man remanded in prison for allegedly killing father with pestle
An Akure Magistrate’s Court has remanded a 23-year-old barber, Victor Akinwa, in Olokuta Correctional Centre, for allegedly killing his father with a pestle.
On November 20, 2021, about 1:30 p.m., Akinwa allegedly committed the crime at Basic Road Idanre in the Ondo State Magisterial District.
Obadasa Ajiboye, a police prosecutor, told the court that the suspect hit his father, Justus Akinwa, with a pestle on the head, which led to his instant death.

According to Obadasa, the offences by the suspect contravened Sections 316 and 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
In an oral application before the court, Obadasa urged the court to remand the suspect to the Correctional Centre pending the Director of Public Prosecutions’ advice, DPP.
Following the prayer of the prosecutor, the suspect was remanded to the Olokuta Correctional Centre by the Presiding Magistrate, Damilola Sekoni, pending the conclusion of the DPP’s advice.
The Magistrate adjourned the case’s mention until March 31, 2022.
