Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay could be on the move away from Old Trafford following his concerns over his limited game time under Erik ten Hag and is open to a move to Newcastle United.

The 26-year-old who had started six of United’s opening seven league games of the season has seen his place taken after the arrival of Casemiro in a £60million deal from Real Madrid in the summer.

And there is no doubt that the Brazilian has been a tremendous addition in United’s midfield and has emerged as one of the team’s best players this season, with starting opportunities for McTominay drying up as a result.

McTominay has not started in the league since the 6-3 defeat to Manchester City in October, with the majority of his game time limited to the Carabao Cup, starting and completing games against Aston Villa, Burnley and Charlton.

Now National Daily learnt from the claim by The Daily Telegraph that McTominay is now ‘worried’ about his lack of opportunities under ten Hag.

The United academy graduate is wanted by Newcastle this month and is ‘widely liked’ by the management team on Tyneside.

National Daily further understands that the Scottish is open to a move to St James’ Park to play under Eddie Howe, with Newcastle set to launch a bid if they are offered any encouragement from Old Trafford.

According to The Daily Telegraph, McTominay is now ‘worried’ about his lack of opportunities under ten Hag.

It is understood that McTominay is open to a move to St James’ Park to play under Eddie Howe, with Newcastle set to launch a bid if they are offered any encouragement from Old Trafford.

It remains to be seen however whether United would sell to and potentially strengthen a direct rival for Champions League qualification, with just goal difference currently separating the two in the league.

United are also still fighting on four fronts this season and have just four senior central midfield options in McTominay, Casemiro, Fred and Christian Eriksen.

Zidane Iqbal has also been in matchday squads this season although is reportedly keen to leave on loan this month.

Kobbie Mainoo also made his senior debut for the club in the 3-0 win over Charlton in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.

United’s January business has been limited to loan signings with Jack Butland and Wout Weghorst arriving on deals until the end of the season.

Elsewhere, Borussia Dortmund are interested in signing Anthony Elanga on loan this month, with Everton and Bournemouth also keen on the Sweden international.
