Meet the Nigerian man currently serving as the minister of labour and immigration in Canada (photos)
Kelechi Kaycee Madu is a 48-year-old Canadian lawyer and politician currently serving as the minister of labour and immigration for Alberta, Canada, since 25 February this year.
Originally from the Igbo tribe of Nigeria, Madu Madu was born and bred in the Southern part of Nigeria. The young Madu was later educated at the prestigious University of Lagos, where he studied law and was later called to the Nigerian bar. Seventeen years ago, he moved to Edmonton, Canada, where he worked for Alberta Hospital, Legal Aid Alberta and the Government of Alberta in a number of various roles. Later involved in Canadian politics, Madu, an active member of the Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta, contested for the constituency of Edmonton-South West during the 2019 Alberta general election Madu and successfully won. Three ago, he bagged an appointment as the Minister of Municipal Affairs, and held that role until 2020 when he was elected Canadian Minister of Justice and Solicitor General, making history as the first Black person to serve in the role.On 25 February this year, Madu was elected as the minister of labour and immigration in Canada.
