By OKOSUN OKHUELEIGBE
The Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman has said in Abuja on Friday that Nigerian soldiers serving under LAFIYA DOLE who were conveying foodstuff to the frontline troops were ambushed by terrorist in Bama-Ngurosoye.
He said after a search and rescue team had completed their assignment at Bokos general area, the body of a dead soldier and a civilian JTF were recovered. Other recoveries made included six burnt AK-47 rifles.
It was however gathered that efforts are on-going to rescue a soldier still missing in action. The Explosive Ordinance Device elements on the team have been discovered and detonated. They have also found out and destroyed Boko Haram terrorists hideout in the area.
Col Usman explained that Ngurosoye has been cleared of terrorists months ago, but some elements of Boko Haram terrorists that were thought to be innocent civilians, sneaked into that and sprang an ambush on troops escorting supplies to our force at the front lines on Thursday.
He added that despite the unfortunate setback, the troops’ morale is high and they have continued with their patriotic duties of searching for and destroying the Boko Haram terrorists in their enclaves.
