Mother dumps days-old baby on church altar
A newborn baby was dumped on the altar of the Holy Fountain Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Oda Road, Akure, Ondo, on Nov 24.
It wasn’t a dedication, to be sure. There were no parents there.
Members of the church heard a baby crying when they entered inside the building in the early hours of Wednesday.
And there the tiny patter was, shrouded in green, on the altar. Alone.
The state police command PRO, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident.
According to her, the baby has been handed over to the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.
“The baby was initially in our custody, but now we have handed over the child to officials of the ministry of women affairs.” she added.
