By TOM GARBA, Yola
The Deployment of 2017/2018 Batch B Corp members of the National Youth Service Scheme (NYSC) has commenced after over five years of insurgency in the North East forced the Federal Government to close down NYSC camp in Adamawa State.
The State Governor, Sen. Mohammed Jibrilla, disclosed this while flagging off the official deployment at the temporary NYSC camp of the state Polytechnic Yola.
While addressing journalists at Government House Yola, he stressed that there is a considerable peace and tranquility in the state more than even in Lagos State.
He said he was highly elated as Corps members have returned to the state due to the improvement of the security situation in and around Adamawa.
Governor Jibrilla further pointed out that corps members will, however, be restricted from trouble places like Michika and Madagali Local Governments areas and other places considered unsafe to the corps members.
He said the return of the NYSC members to Adamawa State will further boost the image of Adamawa as a peaceful state after the insurgents were defeated at the Sambisa Forest.
Also speaking, NYSC Director in Adamawa State, Mohammed Abubakar, said that to further safeguard the lives of NYSC members serving in Adamawa State, every corps member will be strictly monitored by the Divisional Police officers DPOs in their service areas in addition to carrying the telephone numbers of zonal police commanders, traditional rulers in their respective domains.
He further revealed that they will also have the telephone numbers of the state commissioner of police, the Director of State Security Services DSS, the LGA Chairman and vigilante commanders in their primary assigned areas of service.
The Governor also received the zonal executives of the Nigerian Union of Journalists at the Government House where he felicitated with them on the media/executive relationship.
