NYSC saga: Adebayo to know fate Thursday

A Federal High Court in Ibadan hearing the Suit by the Minister for Communication, Adebayo Shittu against the All Progressives Congress (APC), has fixed judgement for Thursday.

Judge, Justice P.I. Ajoku on Wednesday made the decision on the reliefs sought by the minister.

Shittu had dragged his party, APC, to court for failing to include his name in the list of its governorship aspirants for the primaries in Oyo State because he did not participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.

Counsel to the plaintiff, Abdulhakeem Mustafa (SAN) argued that the grounds upon which his client was disqualified were not lawful and contradicted the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which requires anyone seeking to be a state governor to possess a maximum of Senior Secondary School Certificate and not necessarily an NYSC certificate.

In a counter argument, counsel to the APC, Mr Adebayo Ojo, said that the matter was already a dead issue, and therefore, academic.

“My lord, the plaintiff is merely flogging a dead horse because the matter is of no benefit to him or the party, APC

“It has become academic; the sister case he filed in Federal High Court, Abuja, has also been struck out”, he contended.
