Obisesan empowers students, farmers others in Efon, receives praises from beneficiaries

Residents of Efon Local Government Area of Ekiti State have commended the Leader of the Efon Legislative Arm and Councillor representing Ward 08, Rt. Hon. Obisesan Taiwo Julius, for his continued commitment to grassroots development following a wide-ranging empowerment programme that benefited students, teachers, women, farmers, youths and party executives.

The empowerment initiative, held on Saturday, May 13, brought together stakeholders and beneficiaries from across the local government area and underscored the lawmaker’s resolve to improve the welfare of constituents through targeted interventions.

Speaking at the event, Rt. Hon. Obisesan said the programme was designed to touch every segment of society, particularly vulnerable groups and those in need of support.

As part of the initiative, primary and secondary school students received educational materials, with each student going home with six notebooks. Teachers were also supported with ten notebooks each to aid their classroom activities.

Widows and vulnerable women were provided with food items, including bags of rice and 5kg packs of semolina, while farmers received agricultural inputs such as chemicals, cutlasses and spraying machines to boost productivity.

Members of the women’s wing were empowered with 3kg gas cylinders to support their domestic and small-scale business activities, while youths received cash support as a token of encouragement.

The event attracted prominent political leaders, community stakeholders and government officials, including Engr. Bode Adetunji, popularly known as Skidow, Mayor Odunayo Ategbero, Leader Segun Oni Alanaka, the Vice Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Efon Local Government, ward councillors, legislative officials, and the Chief of Staff, Mr. Oladapo Ojo.

In their goodwill messages, the dignitaries praised Obisesan for demonstrating responsive leadership and maintaining close contact with the people he represents.

Several beneficiaries who spoke during the event expressed appreciation for the intervention, describing it as timely and impactful.

Mrs. Folake Adeyemi, one of the widows who received food items, said the support would go a long way in assisting her family amid rising living costs.

“I am very grateful for this gesture. It shows that our representative remembers people like us. This rice and semolina will help my household greatly,” she said.

A farmer, Mr. Kayode Adebayo, who benefited from the agricultural support package, commended the lawmaker for investing in local farmers.

“The spraying machine and chemicals will help improve our farming activities. This is the kind of support farmers need to increase food production and improve our income,” he remarked.

Similarly, Miss Deborah Akinola, a secondary school student who received notebooks, expressed excitement over the educational materials.

“My parents will not have to worry about buying notebooks immediately. I am happy and encouraged to study harder,” she said.

A youth beneficiary, Mr. Tobi Oluwole, described the cash support as a morale booster.

“The cash gift may seem small to some people, but it means a lot to us. It shows that the youths are not forgotten,” he stated.

Rt. Hon. Obisesan used the occasion to appreciate the Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, for creating an enabling environment for development and inclusive governance across the state.

He urged residents to remain united and continue supporting efforts aimed at advancing development in Efon and Ekiti State as a whole.

The event ended on a celebratory note, with beneficiaries and community leaders commending the lawmaker for his dedication to service and commitment to improving the lives of his constituents.

Observers described the programme as another demonstration of grassroots-focused leadership and a practical effort to address the needs of diverse groups within the community.
