Okowa congratulates IBB at 81

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, of Delta State, Vice-Presidential Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has congratulated former President of Nigeria, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, on his 81st birthday.

The governor in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Olisa Ifeajika, in Asaba, commended the renowned statesman for his commitment to the unity and development of Nigeria.

He particularly recalled that it was during his administration that a number of states, including Delta, and new local government areas were created, and extolled him for his contributions to nation-building.

Okowa said: “Your Excellency, your life has been that of illustrious service to the people of Nigeria, and as Deltans, we remain grateful for your effort in ensuring that our dear state, Delta, was created in 1991.

“We commend you, as you attain 81 years in your life’s journey, and for your stellar contributions in many ways, to notable developmental marks in our country.

“We celebrate you and all that you have accomplished through your humble beginnings in your illustrious and enviable military career, which saw you rise to military President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria from 1985 to 1993.

“As we mark the 31st anniversary of the creation of Delta, we recall with gratitude your imprint in making it a reality.

“At 31, we are reaping the benefits of state creation with tremendous changes and great impact in the lives of Deltans and others, who live and do business in the state.

“Our economy, infrastructure and human capital development have also been impacted positively as we strive toward a Stronger Delta of our dreams.

“As a national icon and elder statesman, we hold you in very high esteem for good deeds.

“On behalf of my family, the government, and people of Delta, I heartily congratulate you, our great leader and elder statesman, Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, on your 81st birth anniversary.

“It is our prayer that God will continue to protect you and grant you more years in good health to render more services to mankind,” he added.
