Osun Crisis: FHA director accuses Governor Adeleke of fueling political violence

The Executive Director, Projects Implementation, Federal Housing Authority (FHA) Nigeria, Remi Omowaiye, has accused Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, of orchestrating the ongoing political crisis in the state, warning that the governor’s actions could lead to further chaos and destruction.

Omowaiye’s allegations follow a violent clash on Monday between supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the control of local government secretariats. Reports indicate that at least eight people were killed in the confrontation.

The crisis erupted when elected local government officials from the APC attempted to resume duties at various council secretariats in compliance with a court judgment. The move was met with resistance, leading to violent confrontations between political supporters.

Speaking on Arise TV on Wednesday, Omowaiye recounted his harrowing experience, revealing that he narrowly escaped an assassination attempt.

“It is unfortunate that Governor Ademola Adeleke wants to burn down Osun State,” Omowaiye claimed.

He detailed how his vehicle came under fire during the crisis, leading to serious injuries for his security adviser and driver.

“We got a court judgment which was very clear, and our people were supposed to resume at the councils. That day, I went to Ilesha to join some of our political associates. On my way to town, I saw a lot of hoodlums—PDP hoodlums,” he alleged.

Concerned about the situation, Omowaiye said he immediately alerted the Area Commander of Ilesha, who assured him that the matter would be addressed. However, tensions continued to escalate.

As the situation worsened, Omowaiye said he addressed APC supporters in Ilesha, urging them to disperse and return the next day.

“I decided to return to Oshogbo, but right in front of the Secretariat, my vehicle was riddled with bullets. One of my security advisers was shot, and my driver was also shot. I narrowly escaped,” he recounted.

The attack underscores the growing volatility in Osun State, as political tensions between the APC and PDP continue to escalate.

The recent violence has raised concerns over the security situation in Osun, with many calling for urgent intervention to prevent further bloodshed.

While Governor Adeleke has yet to officially respond to Omowaiye’s accusations, political observers warn that the escalating crisis could destabilize governance in the state.

Security agencies have been urged to take decisive action to restore law and order, as fears grow over potential reprisals from both political factions.

The crisis in Osun highlights the deep-rooted political rivalry in the state and underscores the urgent need for dialogue, restraint, and adherence to the rule of law in resolving disputes.
