PDP Crisis: Bode George denies interest in succeeding Ayu as national chairman
A Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George has denied interest in succeeding the national chairman of the party, Senator Iyorchia Ayu.
There have been pressure on Ayu to step down from stakeholders of the party so a candidate from the South can succeed him to give the South a sense of belonging in the leadership of the party.
Bode George recently joined those calling for Ayu’s resignation as chairman.
He said Ayu should honour the promise he made that he will resign as chairman if the presidential candidate of the party comes from the North.
He also spoke of in favour of the Southwest producing Ayu’s successor after he has resigned.
When asked during his appearance on Arise TV if the reason he’s calling for Ayu’s resignation is because he has a personal interest in the position? Chief George said,
“What am I look for now? I’m closer to 80 than 70. What am I look for to be running around? Look, I have run my race. I have played my part. I am not looking for any political appointment and I have said it, that by the end of next sets of election, I am bowing out so I can spend more time with my children and grandchildren. I have run the race. I have done my best.”
“But while I am still kicking, let justice be maintained. Let justice flow like a river. Let fairness be the upper chamber of our activities and equity remains a very important part of our consideration.”
