PDP Govs, Senators hold crucial meeting with Wike, seeks party unity

Some Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including Senators and other party chieftains, held a crucial meeting with Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State at the Rivers State Governor’s Lodge, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The governors were identified as associates and coordinators of Wike’s campaign for the PDP presidential ticket for the 2023 general elections at the national convention won by former Vice President Atuku Abubakar.

Though the meeting was held behind closed doors, party sources disclosed that it was not unconnected with the desire for the unity of the PDP in the preparations for the 2023 general elections.

Participants at the meeting included Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State; others include former Governor Donald Duke of Cross River State, former Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State, former Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State, former Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State, former Governor Ibrahim Idris of Kogi State, and former Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State. Some of the former governors are currently sitting senators in the National Assembly.

Party sources disclosed that the meeting was to deliberate on resolving all lingering disaffections and mobilising for collective actions of all PDP stakeholders to ensure the party’s victory in 2023.

While the PDP governors and former governors were meeting with Governor Wike in Abuja, Governor   Aminu Tambuwal was consulting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
