Police arrest suspect over forged ‘Presidency’ number plate in Abuja
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a man accused of using forged vehicle registration documents to support a concealed number plate bearing the inscription “PRESIDENCY” on a Lexus LX570 SUV in Maitama, Abuja.
The vehicle was intercepted at about 8 p.m. on October 20, 2026, according to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh.
The police said preliminary investigations showed that the concealed plate carried the registration number 10B218 FG. The suspect allegedly claimed to be the legitimate holder of the plate, but further checks reportedly revealed that the registration documents were forged.
The command also accused the man of impersonating a permanent secretary attached to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).
“The vehicle and its occupant were promptly arrested for investigation and subsequent prosecution,” the police said.
The command added that investigations were ongoing and that the suspect would be charged to court after their conclusion. The police did not disclose the suspect’s identity.
The arrest comes amid a recent warning by the FCT Police Command against the use of unlicensed, concealed or unauthorised vehicle number plates in the capital.
Earlier in October, the command warned motorists against using fake diplomatic plates or concealing registration numbers, saying such practices could hinder the identification and tracking of vehicles.
The police urged residents to cooperate with security operations and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
