Police refutes assassination attempt on Rivers Speaker, Ehie
The Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP Olatunji Disu, on Monday dismissed report of assassination attempt of the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie. The CP emphasised that preliminary investigation did not show any assassination attempt on the factional speaker of the State House of Assembly.
CP Disu, after a courtesy visit to Governor Siminalayi Fubara in Port Harcourt on Monday, said he was aware that police officers were on a routine convoy patrol Sunday night.

The CP said that there has been no official complaint to the report from the Speaker on the assassination attempt on his life and family.
CP Disu on the courtesy visit, acquainted the Governor that he has understanding of the complexity of the security situation in the state, noting that he was in charge of the state Criminal Investigation Department and Divisional Police Officers in two Divisional Headquarters.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara had urged the new Police Commissioner to be professional.
The Governor assured the CP and his management team that his administration would not make ill demands from the force, promising to support the police in performing their function well.

Edison Ehie, had on Monday alleged that he escaped death on Sunday after an attack on his residence.
A statement published on Facebook, had alleged that “at about 11 pm on Sunday, a group of armed thugs and rogue police officers led by a superintendent of police attached to the CTU B 3 RSV and a chief superintendent of police attacked Ehie’s residence with an intention to assassinate Mr. Speaker and his family.
“However, the thugs and rogue police officers led by the two above-named police officers in Rivers State were vehemently repelled in a gun battle by the official security details attached to the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Barr. Ehie Edison , DSSRS.”
