Reason for breast milk leakage in young ladies who are not pregnant
The process of producing breast milk for a newborn baby is called lactation. This often happens when a lady gets pregnant or a few days after birth. Lactation is normal when it happens to a pregnant woman or after she gives birth to a child.
Although there are instances where a lady’s mammary glands begin to produce milk even before pregnancy, this is called galactorrhea and it causes by different reasons. Galactorrhea happens to a few ladies, according to experts, the production of milk by the mammary glands is commonly caused by an elevation of a hormone located in the brain called prolactin, other causes include medications, overstimulation of the breast nipples, tumor, or other underlying medical issues.
The good news is that you don’t need to be worried when your mammary glands produce milk before pregnancy because galactorrhea goes away on its own whether you take medications or not. The only time you should be worried is when the discharge is not milky but watering, yellowish or if its blood. These are some symptoms of breast cancer, at this stage, you need to see a medical doctor for a check-up.
