Renewed tension as North Korea fires ballistic missile into Sea of Japan
There was renewed tension in the Korean Peninsula after South Korea’s military raised fresh alarm on Sunday that North Korea fired an “unidentified ballistic missile” into the East Sea. The North had announced a successful test of a solid-fuel motor for a new weapon system.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff of South Korea, on Sunday declared: “North Korea fires an unidentified ballistic missile into the East Sea,” a body of water known as the Sea of Japan.
North Korea testing a “high-thrust solid-fuel motor”, which the country described as an important test “for the development of another new-type strategic weapon system”.
North Korea has continued to build up arsenal of intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) to deter invasion by the neighbouring countries which military alliances with the United States.
