Reps investigates recruitment, promotion irregularities scandal in NSCDC
The House of Representatives has commenced investigation into the recruitment and promotion scandal in the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The federal lawmakers at plenary on Tuesday adopted a motion by Awaji-Inombek Abiante (PDP-Rivers) and Dumnamene Dekor (PDP-Rivers) for the investigation of staff irregularities in the NSCDC.
Abiante, presenting the motion, complained that the NSCDC has been ignoring the Federal Character principles in its recruitment processes. He noted that most of the recruitment are marred by irregularities, racketeering, favouritism and nepotism. Abiante added that the recruitment was done without advertisement.
The House directed its Committees on Interior, Federal Character and Public Service Matters, to investigate the matter spreading over the past 10 years and report back in six weeks for further legislative action.
