Resident decry increasing rate of robbery in Lagos Island, Ikoyi, Lekki
A resident of Lekki in Lagos has decried the rising spate of robbery incidences on Lagos Island, Ikoyi and Lekki areas of Lagos, noting that even the police told victims that robbery become a daily occurrence on the Island, often between 4:30am and 5:30am.
According to the resident, his in-law was a victim of an early morning ‘one-chance’ robbery at Island on Monday July 31.
“He was forced to do transfers into an online account after a series of beatings. His wallet which they also took away contained his id so he needed to report the incident at a nearby police station. At the station, he also met a man whose pregnant wife was robbed the previous day, Sunday July 30 in the same manner.”

He said a law firm staff was shot and robbed at St. Nicholas House, Catholic Mission Street on Lagos Island while returning from a new generation bank opposite the building on August 3.
“Similarly, on 30 July 2023, a Lexus R330 jeep Navy blue in color with unknown registration number was snatched at gunpoint by three (3) armed men from the driver and the owner at approx. 2200hrs along Osborne Road Ikoyi.
“Also, on July 29, a Toyota Landcruiser black in colour with Reg. No. MUS 468 RD was snatched by four armed men at about 0400hrs along Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase 1, while two days, prior, one adult male was shot and killed at approximately 1300hrs along Akin Adesola Street beside FCMB Bank within the vicinity of Eko Hotel.
