SDP chairman ‘sacked’ from office
The internal crisis rocking the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Abia State has taken a new twist as the seventeen suspended local government area chairmen announced the sack of the state chairman, Hon. Chidi Nwosu.
The spokesman of the LG chairmen, Chief Chijioke Ozems, who made the announcement on Monday, said Nwosu was removed over alleged anti-party activities.
He announced that the local government chairmen as part of the state working committee (SWC) of the party in Abia State, has set up a caretaker committee and appointed Mr. Chukwudi Abengowe to chair the committee.
Ozems explained that the caretaker committee is saddled to pilot the affairs of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in the interim capacity, while Hon. Chidim Philips will serve as the secretary of the committee.
Speaking with newsmen at a press conference in Umuahia, on Monday, the chairman of the Caretaker committee of SDP in the state, Chukwudi Abengowe, said his appointment was for the general interest of the members of the party across the state.
He slammed Hon. Chidi Nwosu over alleged incompetence, adding that the affairs of the party would no longer be family affairs again.
When contacted in a telephone interview, on Monday night, Nwosu laughed off his purported removal by the suspended local government area chairmen.
He said, “Can people that have been suspended by the state leadership of the party, suspend or remove their chairman? The so called chairman of caretaker committee, Chukwudi Abengonwe, was suspended long ago by the state SDP over anti-party activities. So, the suspended LG chairmen lack that power to sack chairman.
“As far as Social Democratic Party, SDP, Abia state is concerned, the LG chairmen remained suspended and they are expected to appear before the disciplinary committee of the party as directed by our National Working Committee(NWC).”
